Maji Safi na Salama Project
Maji Safi na Salama
The Maji Safi na Salama Project is an IWDA initiative dedicated to improving access to clean and safe water for Indigenous and pastoralist communities in Tanzania. Recognizing that women and girls bear the greatest burden of water collection, this project focuses on reducing inequalities in water access, improving sanitation, and strengthening community health.
Through community-driven solutions such as rainwater harvesting, construction of safe water points, hygiene education, and advocacy for inclusive water governance, IWDA ensures that Indigenous voices—especially women and youth—are at the center of decision-making.
This project not only addresses urgent health and sanitation needs but also promotes gender equity, reduces school dropouts linked to water scarcity, and empowers communities to build resilience against climate change.
🌍 Goal: To secure safe, reliable, and sustainable water systems that improve the quality of life and uphold the rights of Indigenous peoples.
